Block X Redevelopment at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The Redevelopment of Block X comprises a 4-storey sustainable building with workshops and offices for the Aviation Services Research Centre, a 25m long all-weather indoor swimming pool, 5-a-side indoor football pitch, indoor gymnasium and communal student facilities. Designed by Andrew Lee King Fun & Associates Architects Ltd., it also provides landscaped recreational space and serves as a circulation hub for the main campus.

Various energy and water conservation strategies are implemented. Photosensors are installed in the public indoor areas to intelligently control the level of indoor lighting required. Solar park lights are utilised for illumination of outdoor areas. The solar-sensing automatic irrigation system is adopted to take care of the approximately 1,490 sqm of vegetation spreading over the entire Block X to achieve the efficient use of water.
